Bridges
Dental bridges are a way to replace missing teeth. Bridges are a 3 (or more) unit restoration that hold pontic(s) or a “fake” tooth/teeth to replace missing teeth.
It is permanently attached to teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth. When a tooth is missing, the tooth behind it starts to drift forward into the space, changing the biting orientation. Bridges are a great option to replace teeth and hold the space to avoid the shifting of teeth in the future.
They are a great option for tooth replacement when one to two teeth need to be replaced. A bridge is also ideal treatment when the teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth need work done.
Dental bridges are permanently cemented into the mouth. They do require a specific technique to clean under them -- which is reviewed with you -- in order to get the longest life out of your bridge.
The lifespan and health of bridges are largely dependent on the supporting structures — the bone, gums and surrounding teeth; which is why it is so important to maintain a healthy mouth.
