Sedation Dentistry
It is estimated that nearly 75% of the US population is scared or apprehensive to have dental treatment completed. Imagine that you could come in for a root canal or extraction and not remember the experience the following day, as well as being completely relaxed and comfortable during the procedure.
At Total Care Dental, we want our patients to be both comfortable and at eease during treatment. Dr. Wollschlager provides anxiolysis to a pleasant, pain-free and anxiety-free visit for all of his patients that need a little more comfort.
What is sedation dentistry?
In our office we use a mild-level oral sedtive, which means no invasive IVs or being hooked up to monitors. Anxiolysis is the lightest form of sedation and we are completely licensd under the ADA to monitor anxiolysis in the office. The medication we use provides an effective and safe way to be relaxed during dental procedures. Patients will have no sense of time, smell, or sound leading to less anxiety. Patients usually recover from sedation within a few hours after treatment.
Sedation densitry leads to complete relaxation for patients. Most people fall asleep and wake up to the procedure being completely done. We do require that our sedation patients have a driver to take them home.
Other options besides sedation
We also offer nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. Nitrous oxide is also considered a mild level sedation and is safe for most patients. Nitrous is inhaled throughout the duration of the treatment, rather than taken orally.
Nitrous oxide does not sedate you as much as oral sedation, but does make you calmer and more relaxed for dental treatment. You remain awake for the entire duration of the appointment, and can still communicate with Dr. Wollschlager and his team.
